Butane? Really?

I would get-go try cleaning the pipe with emery fabric. If it'southward not shiny, it'south not clean, and if it'southward not make clean information technology won't hold solder.

I remember most of united states of america use MAPP gas or Propane. Butane might work for thin-wall copper, merely I have never tried information technology.

Truly clean is a requirement! Some of the fluxes are not very DIY'er friendly. The i I prefer is i that has powdered solder in it. Y'all still need to add together solder, merely it helps to pre-tin the connection.

Depending on what you lot employ, information technology could itself be contaminated with oil or some like fabric, contaminating the piping or fitting. If the copper is really make clean, solder will flow and bond.

If you have sanded and fluxed well, it should work.
I like to make certain there is no h2o, and an open faucet somewhere.

Propane or Mapp will work on that.

I had a like trouble this very day changing a tankless water heater. I switched to MAP gas and cleaned the pipe equally much as possible with emery cloth, then Information technology worked only fine.

The key word is 'clean'. Unless all surfaces to be soldered are clean, so there'south flux, rut is not equally critical (simply it is even so of import) equally y'all need it to get hot enough before you've boiled or burned out all of the flux for the solder to menstruation...heat with no flux allows corrosion which means a lousy connection. Heat the fitting (primarily), not the pipage.
